We change the filter every month and the vents still put out dust. How?
Almost always bypass. If the return grille is undersized for the blower, the filter bows under pressure and air takes the easier path around the frame instead of through the media. Nothing you buy at the store fixes that. Enlarging the return or moving to a deeper media cabinet does, and it costs less than repeat cleanings that keep producing the same complaint.
The return grille howls when the system starts. Is something stuck in it?
Rarely. Noise at the grille is the sound of too much air through too small an opening, and it is the most common finding in newer Sachse houses. A static pressure reading confirms it in minutes. Left alone it shortens blower life and pulls the filter out of shape, which is why we bring it up even when nobody called about noise.
Our house is from 2012 and has never had the ducts cleaned. Is that neglect?
