What is Boot?

The transition piece between the branch duct and the register or grille opening. Boots are the most consistently unsealed joint in residential construction and they sit directly against an attic or crawlspace, which makes them the worst possible place to leak — conditioned air out, unconditioned dusty air in, at exactly the point you feel it.
