What that means for ducts
Mixed-era stock
Humble splits across build eras — 22% pre-1980, 7% since 2010 — so two houses on the same street can need completely different work. It is the case where guessing from the curb is worst, and where a camera before a quote saves the most money. Under half the units here are single-family, so a fair number of systems are shared or stacked, and access is the first thing we check.

02Working in Humble
The part that changes from street to street.
Humble holds three different housing markets inside a small city limit and the duct work is not the same in any two of them. Most units here are not detached houses. They are the garden apartment blocks off FM 1960 and around Deerbrook. A closet holds the air handler, a few short runs leave it, one return grille brings air back, and no matter who is quoting the job there is genuinely not much duct to clean. A tenth of the housing is manufactured, and that is a different animal: the supply trunk runs in the belly under the floor with a crossover duct joining the two halves, and once the belly wrap tears the duct is open to ground moisture and to whatever is living under the home. Then there is old Humble near Main, where the houses were built before central air and had it added later, with trunks worked into attics that were never framed with equipment in mind. Heat is electric in most of the city, so the coil rather than a furnace carries the weight.

We are in a manufactured home. Is this the same service?
The inspection is, the assumptions are not. Your supply runs under the floor inside the belly wrap, with a crossover duct linking the halves, and that is the section that gets pinched during releveling or torn open by animals. Cleaning a run that is open to the crawl space is money wasted, because it refills. We verify the wrap and the crossover before anyone quotes a cleaning.
I rent in one of the apartment blocks. Is there anything real to look at?
One thing in particular. In many garden-style units the air handler shares its closet with the water heater and the return pulls air from inside that closet, so dust, humidity and whatever is stored in there goes into your supply before it reaches the filter. Sealing the return to the cabinet is quick, it is the owner's call rather than yours, and it does more than any cleaning would.
Our 1970s house near Main had central air added later. What turns up?
Retrofit routing, usually. Trunk lines squeezed into an attic with no room to run them straight, boots cut through ceilings and never sealed to the drywall, and a return sized for the smaller blower of that era. We measure airflow before recommending anything, because on these houses the finding is more often an undersized return than a dirty duct.
