Schertz is unusual in two ways that matter for ductwork. Almost every home is detached single-family, with very little attached or stacked housing anywhere in the city, and almost every one of them heats with electricity rather than gas. That means no flue, no heat exchanger, and one cabinet doing all the work: blower, evaporator coil, filter rack and strip heaters in a single box that is where nearly every real air-quality issue in this city begins. It also explains the burning smell people report on the first cold morning, which is dust scorching on the heat strips rather than a failure. The other local factor is turnover. With Randolph and the wider joint base next door, houses here change hands and tenants often, and a system inherits whatever the last household did to it. We find that history in the cabinet before quoting anything.

Will a UV light purify the air in my whole house?

Think of it as surface hygiene that complements filtration, not a force field.
How often does the bulb need replacing?
Annually, as a rule. Germicidal output fades long before the visible glow does, so a lamp can look alive while doing little. We put a dated label at the unit when we install, show you the swap procedure, and the replacement is a simple, inexpensive routine from there.
We're a military family renting near Randolph. What can we reasonably ask for?
A fair question and a common one here. Ask the owner for the filter size and a change schedule in writing, and report sweating vents or a whistling return promptly. Documented airflow complaints get repairs approved far more often than a general request for duct cleaning ever does.
First cold morning of the year, the house smells like burning. Is that dangerous?
Usually it is dust on electric heat strips, which nearly every Schertz home has instead of a gas furnace, and it burns off within minutes. If the smell lasts, repeats on later runs, or comes with tripping breakers, stop using heat and have the air handler inspected before anything else.
There's no furnace in our attic, just one cabinet. What actually gets inspected?
In an all-electric Schertz home that cabinet is the air handler: blower, evaporator coil, heat strips and filter rack in one box. It is also where nearly every genuine air-quality problem starts. We open it, photograph the coil and check the condensate drain before discussing the duct at all.
