Air duct work in Watauga, TX
Watauga is about as consistent as a Texas city gets. Nearly every home is a detached house, most are modest in size, most went up in the 1980s and 90s, and almost nothing new has been added since.

Not every city needs the same thing first.
Mixed-era stock is where guessing from the curb goes wrong most often — two houses on the same street can need completely different work, so the camera comes first.

What that means for ducts
Mixed-era stock
Watauga splits across build eras — 8% pre-1980, 2% since 2010 — so two houses on the same street can need completely different work. It is the case where guessing from the curb is worst, and where a camera before a quote saves the most money.
That is a reading of the city’s stock, not a diagnosis of your home. Which of it applies to you is exactly what the camera settles — and why we would rather run one than quote from a postcode.
On the ground in Watauga
Watauga is about as consistent as a Texas city gets. Nearly every home is a detached house, most are modest in size, most went up in the 1980s and 90s, and almost nothing new has been added since. Overwhelmingly they run electric equipment. That consistency means we can usually predict the system before seeing it: a small air handler, a short trunk, and one return grille in a hallway. Here is what has happened to a lot of them. When the original equipment failed it was replaced with something a half ton or a full ton larger, on the theory that bigger is better in a Texas summer, and the duct and the return stayed exactly the size they were. Now the blower is trying to push more air through a system built for less. You hear it at the registers, you feel it as rooms that never balance, and the coil catches dirt that a properly loaded filter should have caught, because air finds its way around a filter too small for the volume moving through it. That is a measurement problem, and a cleaning does not address it.

05Questions
Asked in Watauga.
The vents are noisy and the house never feels even.
Both are usually static pressure rather than dirt. We put gauges across the air handler and read what the system is actually doing. The common Watauga finding is equipment larger than the duct it got connected to, and the honest answer is then a return upgrade or a larger filter cabinet rather than a cleaning. That is less money than most people expect to be told.
There is one filter in the hallway ceiling and it is filthy inside a month.
A single undersized return does that. The filter face is too small for the air moving through it, so it loads fast and the pressure drop starts pulling air around the frame instead of through the media. Correcting the return area gives you a filter that lasts its rated life and actually filters, which is a better purchase than cleaning the system every year.
Ours is a small house. Is a full cleaning even worth it?
Often not, and the price should follow the system rather than a package. A modest single-story plan here has short runs, so once the plenum and the coil are clean there is not a great deal left to do. We would rather clean what needs it, show you the rest on camera, and send a smaller invoice than the one you were braced for.
